Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the park's transformation, such as the addition of the amphitheatre, cafe, and car park. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the two time periods is occasionally confusing due to grammatical inaccuracies, making it difficult to follow the spatial changes. The summary of the 'main features' is present, but the development of these points is limited, and some details are slightly inaccurate (e.g., the description of the rose garden placement). To improve, focus on grouping features more logically and ensuring the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While cohesive devices like 'At the outset' and 'Moving towards' are used, they are sometimes applied incorrectly or lead to confusing sentence structures. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the movement of features from one side of the park to the other. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'pictorial representation illustrates about' and 'latest water feature introduce'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on simple descriptors. To improve, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing maps and changes, such as 'replaced by', 'transformed into', or 'underwent significant development'. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on correct word forms will help you convey information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('was build', 'was place'), subject-verb agreement errors ('it have one pond'), and missing articles. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to passive voice constructions, which are essential for describing map changes, and ensure consistent tense usage when comparing past and present states. Proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement will also significantly improve your score.
