Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, identifying key changes such as the addition of the amphitheatre and the removal of the fountain. However, the report is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, analytical overview. The description of the 1920 layout is slightly confusing, and some details, such as the 'rooms or offices' mentioned, are not clearly supported by the provided visual data. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly synthesises the most significant trends rather than just listing individual features. The comparison between the two time periods needs to be more structured to ensure the reader can easily follow the transformation of the park.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. While some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Furthermore' are used, they are occasionally placed incorrectly or do not effectively link the ideas. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the mention of 'two on the top' without specifying what is being referred to. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a smooth progression of information. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as referring to park features as 'rooms or offices' and using 'Pounds' instead of 'ponds'. The phrasing is often repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptions. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to maps and urban planning, such as 'replaced by', 'transformed into', or 'situated in the north-east corner'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will help convey information more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the public park has three Rose garden' and 'it's current look' (should be 'its'). The use of articles is also inconsistent throughout the text. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to awkward phrasing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the correct use of singular and plural forms, possessive pronouns, and articles. Proofreading for these common errors will help you achieve a more accurate and professional tone.
