Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response identifies the main features of the park in 1920 and the present day, such as the rose garden, fountain, and cafe. However, the description is somewhat fragmented and lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the most significant changes. While the task is addressed, the reporting of information is inconsistent; for instance, the second paragraph mentions a 'water features' category that is not clearly detailed in the body, and the spatial descriptions (e.g., 'right of the south entrance') are occasionally confusing or inaccurate compared to the visual data. To improve, ensure all key features are clearly located and the major transformations are highlighted more systematically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'Regarding the first diagram' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the park. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks flow, often feeling like a list of observations rather than a coherent summary of the changes. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear transitions between the past and present states would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'two entrance was present' (should be 'entrances') and 'glasshouse was indicates' (should be 'indicated'). The range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptors, and there is little attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific terminology related to urban planning or map description. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs and nouns to describe changes, such as 'replaced by', 'transformed into', or 'relocated'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'two entrance was' and 'centre of the park contain'. There are also errors in tense usage, such as 'pond replace by' instead of 'the pond was replaced by'. While there is an attempt to use complex sentence structures, these are often faulty or punctuated incorrectly. The range of structures is limited, and the errors are frequent enough to be noticeable throughout the text. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
