Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the task, including the major transformations such as the amphitheatre, the play area, and the car park. You have successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between 1920 and the present day. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant changes. To reach a higher band, ensure that all spatial descriptions are precise; for instance, the location of the rose gardens in 1920 is slightly confusing due to the terminology used. Overall, you have provided a well-structured summary that addresses the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by time period and theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'In 1920', 'Today', and 'Another significant development' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the repetitive use of 'the park' and 'the garden'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the historical state from the current state, which helps the reader follow the progression of changes clearly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'substantial development', 'transformation', and 'redeveloped'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lountain' (likely a typo for fountain) and 'sivated' (situated). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'opposing garden has been pulled down'—'removed' or 'cleared' would be more precise in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, incorporating more varied and precise descriptive language would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, particularly with articles ('the' is frequently missing, e.g., 'transformation of stage', 'removal of pond') and prepositions ('in at the w south-east side'). There are also some minor spelling and typographical errors like 'south-vest' and 'lountain'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and proofreading for typos will significantly improve your accuracy.
