The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The plans illustrate how Grange Park changed since its opening in 1920.

Overall, public park has undergone substantial development. The most notable changes include the transformation of stage for musicians to amphitheatre, removal of pond for waterplanes and glasshouse, and conversion of lountain to a rose garden.

In 1920, rose gardens were located in the south-west and north-west side and of the park, while the remaining garden was situated in the north south-east, right next to the north entrance. Pond and glasshouse positioned on at the north-east and south-east of the park. Stage for musicians was found right in the middle of rose gardens on the east side. Seats were all spread across the edges of the park, between the entrance and 2 of the 3 rose gardens, pond and glasshouse. Fountain was centered in the park.

Today, the former stage has been completely redeveloped into an amphitheatre for concerts. Rose garden at the north-west stayed same, while the opposing garden has been pulled down. The remaining garden has been replaced with a café. The Pond for water planes and glasshouse are converted into a play area for children and a water feature.

Another significant development is the construction of underground car park. Entrance to the car park is located in at the south-east side of the park.
