Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today. You successfully identified key changes such as the addition of the amphitheatre, cafe, and play area. However, the description of the spatial layout is occasionally confusing. For example, stating that the fountain was in the center while also mentioning three sides for seating is slightly ambiguous. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more precise and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant transformations, such as the shift from a more formal garden layout to a more recreational space. The report is accurate but could benefit from a more structured approach to grouping the changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting multiple sentences with 'However' in the final paragraph. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for instance, 'same for rose garden' lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking phrases and ensuring pronouns clearly refer back to specific features would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'amphitheatre', 'rectangular', and 'development'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'latest development of today park' is unnatural; 'current features of the park' would be better. Similarly, 'construction of a cafe is also takes place' contains a grammatical error in verb form and awkward phrasing. To improve, focus on using more precise nouns and verbs to describe map changes, such as 'replaced by', 'converted into', or 'situated in the vicinity of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'construction of a cafe is also takes place' (incorrect verb tense/structure), 'at the place of greenhouse a water feature... takes place' (awkward syntax), and 'today park' (missing possessive). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate better control. Reducing these frequent minor errors and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher band score.
