IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given diagram illustrate the drastic transformation of the Grange park from 1920 and present day.

Overall, there are many modifications taken place such as the stage for musician is transformed into an Amphitheatre for concerts. It is evident from the chart that in 1920 the center of attraction of the park was a water fountain which no longer has a space at present. Glasshouse near the entrance of the Eldon street is replaced by a water feature. In addition a new entrance to underground car park facility is accessible near the water feature.

It is noticeable from graph that earlier there were three rose gardens. However, there is only two gardens exist now and one of it is relocated to the center of the park. In 1920, many seats were displaced around the the garden but currently it is arranged around the sides of the rose garden at the center of the grange park. Pond for water plants placed at the right corner in Arnold avenue has been eliminated and the space has been occupied by a play area for children. Nevertheless the entrance of Eldon street and Arnold avenue remain the same.
