Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the park in 1920 and today, providing a clear overview of the transformation. You highlighted key changes, such as the removal of the glasshouse and the addition of the amphitheatre and cafe. However, the response lacks precision in some areas; for example, describing the rose gardens as 'reduced in one' is slightly confusing, and the phrase 'or so on' is too informal for an academic report. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are explicitly linked to the specific locations mentioned in the prompt, and avoid vague generalisations. Overall, you have covered the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organised into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two time periods. This structure helps the reader follow the progression of changes. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In 1920' and 'Today', to signal shifts in time. However, the use of linking words is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical. Some sentences feel disconnected, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the upper side of this one rose garden'. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'transformation', 'infrastructure', and 'amphitheatre' correctly. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'first time opened', 'after refurnished', and 'stage of musicians'. These errors occasionally hinder the natural flow of the text. To improve, focus on learning the correct verb forms and collocations associated with describing maps and changes. While you have enough vocabulary to convey your meaning, the lack of precision and the use of informal phrases like 'or so on' limit your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing articles ('The plans illustrates', 'one a Glasshouse'), incorrect verb tenses ('The three rose garden has been reduced'), and subject-verb agreement errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To achieve a higher band, you need to pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly pluralisation and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will also help improve your score in this area.
