Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The map compares the changes made in the Grange Park which was first opened for the public in 1920 and the same park today.
Overall, it seems that the park has gone through various changes and reconstruction over the years, some new features are added and few parts are redeveloped.
In terms of re-development, the current park has a new entrance through the underground car par, which was not there in 1920. The seating area which was scattered all over the park is now built in the middle of the two entrance around the rose garden. One more impressive change is that the stage for musician is re-built, and a better Amphitheater for concerts is created with the circular sitting for the audience.
Regarding the new changes, in place of old glasshouse a water feature is constructed, which acts like an artificual water fall. Additionally, a cafe for people to eat and a children's play area is created, which was missing in 1920.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the park in 1920 and today, providing a clear overview and highlighting key changes such as the entrance, seating, and new amenities. You have made relevant comparisons between the two time periods. To reach a higher band, ensure you include more precise details from the map, such as the removal of the rose garden or the specific location of the fountain. While you have covered the main points, a more thorough description of the spatial layout would strengthen the response. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on different types of changes. You use cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'Additionally', and 'Regarding' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the same park') remains consistent throughout the text to maintain a smooth flow. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'amphitheater', and 'scattered'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'car par' (car park) and 'artificual' (artificial). While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary, some phrasing could be more precise to improve the sophistication of your writing. To improve, focus on using more varied collocations related to map descriptions and ensure careful proofreading to avoid simple spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'the stage for musician is re-built' (should be 'musicians' and 'was rebuilt') and 'circular sitting' (should be 'seating'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, aim for greater accuracy in subject-verb agreement and noun-adjective forms, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with fewer errors.
