Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the changes to the rose gardens, the addition of the amphitheater, and the conversion of the pond and glasshouse. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the park's transition from a nature-focused space to a more recreational and facility-oriented area. Some details are slightly inaccurate, such as the description of the rose gardens, and the inclusion of the underground car park is a minor detail that lacks context. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking changes rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into a brief introduction and a body paragraph, but the lack of clear paragraphing makes it difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'if we compare', but they are often used mechanically or with incorrect punctuation. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, jumping between different areas of the park without a logical flow. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the locations of the new features. Improving the use of linking words and structuring the response into distinct paragraphs would significantly enhance readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'now how is it' and 'gaint rose gardens'. The use of 'demolished' is appropriate, but other terms are repetitive or imprecise. Spelling errors, such as 'childern's', 'cae', and 'yjey', are present and occasionally distract the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise descriptive language for spatial changes and ensure accurate spelling of common terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'The maps compare the park when it is open in 1920' (tense inconsistency), 'a Amphitheater... were built' (subject-verb agreement), and 'surrounding by a seats' (preposition and article errors). Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of grammatical slips limits the score.
