Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the park, including the additions of the cafe and children's play area, and the transformation of the fountain and stage. The overview provides a good summary of the main changes. However, the description of the locations is occasionally imprecise, such as the claim that 'all seats and rose gardens removed' when the map shows some remain. To reach a higher band, ensure that spatial descriptions are more accurate and that the comparison between the two time periods is more clearly structured to highlight the most significant transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Later on', and 'Furthermore' helps guide the reader through the changes. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the sentence structure in the overview is a bit cluttered, which affects the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different areas of the park. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'Amphitheatre', 'reconstructed', and 'water feature' used correctly. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'specified as' instead of 'designated as' or 'located in'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would help improve the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there was a fountain which replaced with' should be 'which was replaced with') and article usage (e.g., 'on the west of both entrance'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
