Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, identifying key changes such as the replacement of the stage and pond. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the shift from a leisure-focused garden to a more facility-oriented public space. Some details are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as the mention of '19s' instead of 1920, and the description of the layout is occasionally difficult to follow. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking transformations rather than just listing changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the chronological structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'In today' at the start of the fourth paragraph, which is not standard English. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which part of the park is being described. The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, and the transition between the 1920 description and the modern-day description could be smoother to better highlight the comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is a reliance on simple, repetitive language (e.g., 'looking like very simple', 'very beautiful', 'very creative'). Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'total development' and 'sources for fun'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'relocated', or 'integrated', and avoid informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Middle of the garden have rose garden'), incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'the garden was looking like'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
