IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The map compares the park in 1920 and its current layout.

Overall, it is evident that the park has been modernized since 1920, with several amenities such as a children's play area, an amphitheatre for concerts, and a water feature.

In 1920, there was a fountain in the middle of the park, which now has been removed by a rose garden. In addition, seats located in the south-west, north-west, and south-east sides of the park have been relocated to the surroundings of the rose garden. Moreover, a stage or musicians were demolished, and the amphitheatre for concerts is built in the northwest of the park.

Another noticeable change which has been made in the garden is that a pond for water plant has been replaced by the children's play area in the northeast corner. Furthermore, a glass house has been converted into the water feature.

Hence, the current development brings significant changes to the layout of the Grange Park.
