Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, identifying key changes such as the removal of the fountain and the addition of the amphitheatre. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the shift from a more natural, open layout to a more structured, facility-oriented design. While the main features are mentioned, the description is somewhat list-like and lacks a sophisticated synthesis of the information. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most striking transformations rather than just listing individual changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by mechanical and repetitive use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Firstly', 'secondly', and 'In addition' are used, but the flow between sentences is often abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'on the left there is a cafe', which lacks a clear anchor point for the reader. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to group related changes, such as those related to entertainment versus those related to landscaping.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'demonstrats', 'constucted', 'demolise', and 'reeplace', which detract from the overall quality. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'many changes' and 'in current time'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing maps, such as 'transformed', 'replaced by', 'situated', and 'redeveloped', while ensuring accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('there was fountain', 'in middle of the park'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('it is remove', 'it is demolise'), and punctuation errors. These errors are noticeable and occasionally force the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
