Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the park's evolution, identifying key changes such as the replacement of the rose garden and the addition of the amphitheatre. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview. The summary provided in the second paragraph is somewhat disjointed, and the final paragraph introduces subjective commentary ('aesthetic', 'local's demand') which is not supported by the data. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview synthesizes the most significant trends rather than just listing changes. Additionally, some details are slightly inaccurate, such as the location of the rose garden, which requires more precise spatial description.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from an introduction to a summary, then to specific details. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'While, the children play area is established'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the 1920 description and the current state could be smoother. While the overall progression is logical, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structure limit the flow of the response. Improving the variety of transition signals would enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe the changes clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'evolution', 'contemporary', and 'amphitheatre'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'overtook by' instead of 'replaced by' or 'superseded by', and 'at place where' instead of 'where'. The phrasing 'cursory glance at the data' is slightly informal for an academic report. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for spatial descriptions and ensuring collocations are natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('both the diagram depict', 'there is the stage'), missing articles ('at centre of the park'), and punctuation errors (spaces before commas). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammar, particularly article usage and subject-verb agreement, and aim for more error-free complex sentences.
