Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you identify some key features such as the fountain, rose gardens, and new additions like the car park and amphitheatre, the description is incomplete and lacks a clear, well-developed overview. The summary of changes is fragmented, and the final sentence is cut off, leaving the task unfinished. To improve, ensure you provide a comprehensive summary of all major changes and reach the required length by elaborating on the spatial relationships and the specific transformations between 1920 and the present day.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transition between ideas is often mechanical or confusing, such as the use of 'In addiction' (likely meant 'In addition') and 'Consequently'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods. The lack of a cohesive structure and the abrupt ending hinder the overall flow of the response. Using a wider range of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would help improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'big changes' and 'places'. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'park organized' instead of 'park was laid out' and 'immediately' used incorrectly to mean 'now'. The phrase 'improved for the better side' is unnatural. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to describing maps and changes, such as 'transformed', 'replaced', 'converted', or 'constructed'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('when it is opened'), missing articles ('at the centre of park'), and awkward sentence structures ('there wasn't entrance underground car park'). The sentence construction is often simplistic, and the lack of control over basic grammar rules, such as subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, is evident. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex sentences will also help improve your score in this criterion.
