IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

This two map illustrate the significant changes that have taken place at Grange Park between 1920 and the present day. The several old features such as the stage of musicians, fountain, pond and glasshouse, have been removed and new facilities including a cafe, children’s play area, amphitheatre and water feature, have been added in modern grange park.

There was a stage for musicians on the western side and a fountain was located in the center. There were rose gardens in the north-west, north-east and south-west and also a pond for water plants was in the north-east on top of seats. A glasshouse was in the south-east nearby entrance. The many seats were placed around the park.

In today the stage has been replaced by an amphitheatre for center and the fountain has been replaced by a rose garden in the center. The old glasshouse has been replaced by water feature in the south-east and glasshouse has been removed. Also the old pond for water plants has been replaced by cafe and children’s play area in the north-east. There is also an underground car park entrance from Eldon Street.
