Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the park's transformation, including the demolition of the fountain and the addition of the rose garden and amphitheatre. You successfully identify the key changes and note the areas that remained unchanged, such as the entrances. However, the overview is slightly repetitive, mentioning the 'central part' twice in the same sentence. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview provides a more concise summary of the most significant trends rather than listing specific details, which should be reserved for the body paragraphs. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and the main features are highlighted effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, moving from an overview to specific details. You use cohesive devices such as 'moreover', 'at the first glance', 'furthermore', and 'additionally' to link ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used in contexts that do not perfectly fit the flow of the information. For instance, 'at the first glance' is more commonly used for personal impressions rather than describing a map. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help the progression of your ideas feel more seamless and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demolished', 'erected', 'intact', and 'underground car park'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as '1920 to till now' (which is redundant) and 'on place of fountain' (should be 'in place of the fountain'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more precise descriptive verbs and avoiding redundant phrasing will strengthen this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in north-eastern side', 'in west side') and subject-verb agreement ('diagrams presents'). Additionally, the punctuation around the semicolon in the third paragraph is slightly awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to the use of definite articles with geographical locations and ensure that your verb forms consistently match the plural or singular subjects.
