The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The plans compare the development of Grange Park in 1920 with its current layout.

Overall, the park has changed considerably, with several new facilities being added. The rose gardens have been reduced, while the stage for musicians, pond and glasshouse have been removed. In their place, an amphitheatre, cafe, children’s play area and water feature have been introduced.

In 1920, there were three rose gardens located around the park, while a stage for musicians was situated in the centre-left area. A fountain was placed in the middle of the park. There was also a pond for water plants in the top-right corner and a glasshouse near Eldon Street. Several seats were positioned around the park.

Today, the stage for musicians has been replaced by an amphitheatre for concerts. A rose garden remains in the top-left corner, while another one is now located in the centre. The fountain has been replaced by a larger rose garden. Moreover, a cafe and children’s play area have been added, while a water feature and an underground car park are also present.
