Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the park in both 1920 and the present day. You provided a clear overview and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the demolition of the glasshouse and the addition of the amphitheatre. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide more precise detail regarding the locations of features; for example, you mention the rose garden is at the center, but you could more clearly contrast this with the previous location of the fountain. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on the two time periods. You use cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Similarly', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between the description of 1920 and the present day is smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the park's development.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'demolished', and 'amphitheatre' correctly. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'feauture' instead of 'feature' and 'a underground' instead of 'an underground'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations or varied synonyms for 'park' or 'facilities' would help elevate the score. The current range is functional but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is consistently clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the fountain have been demolished' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'at the western part of the map' (preposition choice). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as starting a sentence with a lowercase 'a' in the final paragraph. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles. The errors present do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
