The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagrams presents the difference in the first day of the Grange Park in 1920 and how it looks today. Looking at the data, it is readily apparent that there are lots of major changes in the park. The park is evolved based on modern needs to attract visitors. Facilities like Amphitheatre for concerts, a Cafe and car parking is made available.
In 1920, right north-east corner was allotted to rose garden and Pond for water plants, Which is replaced to a Cafe and play area for children. Also all seating area is placed in the centre of the park around the rose garden, which made at the place where fountain was present.
The amphitheatre for concerts is built instead of stage of musicians in the west side of the park. Also the rose garden in south west corner is removed, so that the park should look spacious. Moreover, the water feature is developed in place where glasshouse use to be. Also an underground parking is constructed in the park and the entrance for this parking is in the east side of the park, near Water feature.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the park's transformation, including the addition of the amphitheatre, cafe, and parking. However, the overview is somewhat generic. While you mention that the park has evolved to meet modern needs, you could improve by highlighting the most significant changes, such as the shift from a more natural, garden-focused layout to one that prioritizes recreational facilities and infrastructure. Some details are slightly inaccurate; for instance, you mention the rose garden in the south-west was removed to make the park look 'spacious,' but the map shows it was replaced by a water feature and other structures. A more precise description of the spatial layout would improve the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction followed by body paragraphs focusing on specific areas of the park. You use some cohesive devices like 'In 1920,' 'Also,' and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. For example, starting multiple sentences with 'Also' limits the sophistication of your writing. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the 1920 layout and the current layout could be smoother to ensure a more seamless progression of information throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'amphitheatre,' 'allotted,' and 'underground parking.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'The park is evolved' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'The park has evolved'), and 'glasshouse use to be' should be 'used to be.' Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'right north-east corner was allotted to rose garden.' Expanding your range to include more precise descriptive verbs and nouns related to urban planning would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder clarity. For instance, 'The diagrams presents' (subject-verb agreement error), 'Which is replaced to a Cafe' (incorrect preposition and relative clause usage), and 'glasshouse use to be' (tense error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the unnecessary capitalization of 'Which' in the middle of a sentence. To reach a higher band, you should focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining your use of relative clauses and prepositions.
