The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The provided maps compare the layouts of a public park called Grange in 1920 and how it looks today after renovation.

Overall, the public park has undergone significant changes with various modern facilities and amenities now. The major changes include an underground car park, a water feature, an amphitheatre for concerts instead of a stage for musicians, a play area for children and a cafe.

In 1920, the park had two main entrances, one at the Arnold avenue and another at the Eldon street, which still remains at the same spot. There were three rose gardens and five seating arrangements evenly distributed in several corners of the park. At the upper right corner, a pond for water plants was located and a glasshouse can be seen at the lower right corner next to the Eldon street entrance. A stage for musicians was situated at the center-left of the park and in the center a fountain can be noticed.

However, today, the fountain has been replaced by a rose garden in the center surrounded by four seats. The former pond is now changed to a children's play area at the top-right corner. Next to that a cafe has been included which was a rose garden previously. Moreover, the former glasshouse near the Eldon street is now a water feature. While the rose garden at the top-left corner is still there, the stage for musicians has been reconstructed to an amphitheatre for concerts with larger audience facility. Furthermore, an underground car parking has been built at the bottom right corner of the Eldon street.
