Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates the comparison of a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.
Many things in the grange park today is same as it were in 1920, the are two entrances of the park and both are at the same location where they were before. One entrance is at arnold avenue while the other entrance is at Eldon Street. Starting with the arnold avenue entrance, there were seats on the left side of the entrance in 1920 but today there are no seats there. Along with the seats were two rose gardens but today there is only one rose garden on the left side of the entrance and a cafe on the right side and along with the cafe is children's play area. However, in 1920 there was not cafe but a rose garden there and along with that there was a pond for water plants. Moving forward from the entrance there was a fountain in between the park and on the left side of the fountain was a stage for musicians to perform art for the audience in 1920 but today Infront or the entrance is a rose garden surrounded by seats from all four sides and on the left of garden is an amphitheater for concerts. The stage in 1920 is now being transformed into amphitheater. In front of the rose garden is the 2nd entrance today at eldon street and on the right side of this entrance is a water feature and from the outside of park there is entrance for underground car parking at this location but in 1920 the Eldon Street entrance was right in front of fountain and on the right side was the glasshouse and along with the glasshouse were seats for audience and on the left side of the entrance were again seats surrounding rose garden but today there is nothing on the left side of Eldon Street entrance.
In conclusion, many additions have been made in grange park today, but before there were mostly seats and rose gardens. Now the structure of the park has improved to a great extent attracting audience for it's new features.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, identifying key changes such as the addition of the amphitheater and the cafe. However, the description is somewhat cluttered and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. While the student identifies specific changes, the reporting is often repetitive and lacks a clear, analytical structure. To reach a higher band, the student should group information more logically (e.g., permanent features vs. replaced features) and provide a concise overview paragraph that highlights the transformation from a passive, green space to a more active, facility-oriented park.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the internal flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Phrases like 'along with' and 'on the left/right side' are used excessively, making the text feel mechanical. While there is a logical progression from the entrance through the park, the connections between sentences are often weak. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track the spatial changes. More sophisticated linking words and better paragraph transitions would significantly improve the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the park's features. However, the range is limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms like 'things', 'place', and 'side'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'perform art' instead of 'perform music' or 'performances'. The student attempts to describe the changes, but lacks the precision required for a higher band. To improve, the student should incorporate more descriptive, topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and landscape design, such as 'converted', 'replaced', 'redeveloped', or 'amenities'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Many things... is same'), missing articles ('there was not cafe'), and awkward phrasing ('Infront or the entrance'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent and distract the reader. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading to ensure that subject-verb agreement and article usage are consistent.
