IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two diagrams illustrate a public park constructed in 1920 and the changes that have been made to the park as of today.

Overall, the Grange park has been completely redesigned as compared to the past. Many thinks have been added such as an Amphitheatre, a cafe and a children's playground while replacing things like the fountain, the pond, the glasshouse and so on.

Detailed analysis of these diagrams showcases the removal of the fountain from the middle of the park by replacing it with a rose garden with seats along its four sides. The pond which was used for water plants has been converted into a children's play area and the rose garden just at the left of the pond has also been reconstructed into a cafe. The glasshouse at the bottom right of the map has been converted into a water feature along with an entrance to the underground car park.

In addition to this, the rose garden, a stage of musicians as well as some seats have been removed from the bottom left side of the map and an Amphitheatre has been constructed which is mainly used for concerts now. All the seats from all around the map have been placed at the middle of the map surrounding the rose garden.
