Student answer (Band 6.0)
This chart illustrates the changes in a public park between the year 1920 and today. This essay will discuss all the important factors and make comparisons where needed.
Overall, it is clear that the park had massive changes overtime. We can see that the pond is replaced by children's play area, A rose garden is built over the fountain. While the entrance and a small section of rose garden remains the same, the stage is replaced by a amphitheatre for concerts.
It is also evident that the park underwent several structural changes overtime. One of the major changes include entrance for the underground parking. We can also see that the seating arrangements are slightly changed. They are built near the rose garden. Moreover, there is also a cafe built near children's play area.
The restructuring has resulted in some major developments focused on seating arrangements. Furthermore, the number of rose gardens are slightly reduced. Back in 1920 the park had 3 gardens. Whereas, at present there are only 2.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the park's transformation, such as the addition of the underground parking, the cafe, and the amphitheatre. However, the report is somewhat superficial. For instance, it mentions the seating arrangements but lacks specific detail regarding their placement or the overall layout changes. The comparison of the rose gardens is accurate, but the description of the pond being replaced by a play area is a key feature that could have been integrated more smoothly into a clearer overview of the park's spatial evolution. To reach a higher band, ensure all major changes are highlighted with precise comparisons rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on different aspects of the park's development. There is a clear introduction and an overall summary. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'also' and 'moreover'. The transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the structural changes with the specific features. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the paragraphing could be more effectively utilized to group related features, such as all 'additions' versus all 'removals'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the main changes effectively. Phrases like 'structural changes' and 'restructuring' are used appropriately. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and a lack of variety. For example, 'massive changes' is a bit informal for an academic report, and 'number of rose gardens are' contains a subject-verb agreement error regarding the quantifier. To improve, the student should aim for more precise descriptive language, such as 'undergone significant modification' or 'a reduction in the number of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'One of the major changes include' (should be 'includes') and 'a amphitheatre' (should be 'an amphitheatre'). Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'A rose garden' starting a sentence mid-paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
