Student answer (Band 5.5)

As we see in the Both figures there is Grange Park. Figures Shows the difference between the park in 1920 till now. Let's summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison where relevant.

In year 1920 Grange park the entrance is parallel in front and backside, front side attached with Eldon Street whereas backside is with Arnold Street. In the centre of park there is beautiful fountain and stage for musicians in the right of fountain when we enter in park from Eldon Street. In the right corner we see a pond for water plants, and for sitting seats are fixed in in the boundaries of Park.

From year 1920 we see park structure is totally change but the entrance remains same from both streets. Rose garden and seats is in the centre of park, and at right side there is Amphitheatre for concerts. when we entre from Arnold Street at left side for refreshment there a cafe. Also, there is amazing water feature in the right-side entrance from Eldon Street.

Overall, the structure of park is more creative and beautiful from the previous setup.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, such as the entrances, fountain, pond, and new additions like the amphitheatre and cafe. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the 1920 layout is a bit confusing, and the comparison between the two periods lacks precision. For example, stating the structure is 'totally change' is vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the location of features (e.g., using compass directions or relative positions) and ensure the overview clearly highlights the most significant changes, such as the transition from a more natural, open space to a more facility-oriented park.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from 1920 to the present. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'In year 1920' and 'From year 1920' are repetitive and unnatural. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'the entrance is parallel in front and backside'. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'subsequently', 'in contrast') would help the ideas flow more logically and improve the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and sometimes imprecise. You rely on basic descriptors like 'beautiful', 'amazing', and 'fixed'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'backside is with Arnold Street' and 'water plants'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. To improve, try to use more specific terminology related to maps and urban planning, such as 'situated', 'replaced by', 'converted into', or 'retained'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('in the centre of park'), subject-verb agreement ('Figures Shows'), and preposition usage ('in the right of fountain'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with some attempts at complex sentences that contain errors, such as 'when we entre from Arnold Street at left side for refreshment there a cafe'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause the reader to pause, although they do not completely impede communication. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and prepositions will significantly improve your score.
