IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The plans compare the layout of Grange Park when it opened in 1920 with its current layout.

Overall, Grange Park has been redeveloped with several new facilities, such as an amphitheatre, a playground, a water feature, a café, and a new car park. All the seats on each side of the park have been moved to the centre, around a rose garden.

Grange Park has maintained its original location throughout the period. The old stage for musicians has been replaced by a modern amphitheatre for concerts. At the centre, the fountain has been replaced by a rose garden, which is surrounded by seating. On the north-east side, the pond for water plants has been replaced by a children’s play area.

The rose garden beside the children’s area has been removed and replaced by a café. The old glasshouse has been replaced by a water feature. All the seats on each side of the park have been removed. The entrance area has remained the same as in the past. A new underground car parking facility has been added in the park.
