Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the key changes such as the conversion of the fountain to a rose garden and the addition of the amphitheatre. However, the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the overall trends. While the main features are identified, some descriptions are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as the mention of a 'rose garden' being converted into a 'cafe' when the map shows the rose garden remains and a separate area is replaced. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant transformations more clearly and provides more precise comparisons between the two time periods.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the sentence fragments starting with 'which one' (e.g., 'which one transformed in the children's play area') disrupt the flow and logical progression of the text. Additionally, the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the frequent reliance on repetitive sentence structures and awkward linking phrases prevents the response from achieving a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic verbs like 'built', 'removed', and 'converted'. While the student successfully uses terms like 'amphitheatre' and 'water feature', there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'entrance... are remain at same place' and 'on given period'. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied synonyms for change and development, and ensure that nouns and verbs are used in their correct forms within the context of describing maps.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'fountain was... which converted'), incorrect article usage (e.g., 'in the middle of the garden'), and awkward sentence fragments. The misuse of relative clauses, particularly the 'which one' construction, is a recurring issue. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for verb tense consistency would be beneficial.
