Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, identifying key changes such as the amphitheatre and the play area. However, the description is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear overview. While the main features are mentioned, the comparison is not always precise, and some details are confusingly presented, such as the reference to an 'underground entrance for car parking' which is not clearly supported by the visual evidence. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary statement in the introduction and group features logically rather than listing them in a fragmented manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into short, somewhat choppy paragraphs. The logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. For instance, the transition between the 1920 features and the current layout is abrupt. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'while' and 'but', the overall flow is mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes in the park. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'today park' instead of 'the park today' and 'musicians stage' instead of 'music stage' or 'bandstand'. Spelling errors like 'enterence' and 'caffe' also detract from the quality of the writing. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Focusing on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing maps and improving spelling accuracy will help.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('the 1920', 'the musicians stage'), prepositions ('enter in the park'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'now this replacement is with the play area'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and practicing the construction of complex sentences to describe changes over time.
