Student answer (Band 6.0)
The plan compares the features of grange park when it was open in 1920 with the same park it is today.
overall, we see a certain changes in the park compares to its opening date which was 1920. we will discuss what has changed and what remain the same compare as of today.
the park has two main entrances which are located in the same place, the Arnold and Eldon street entrances. when we enter from the Arnold avenue entrance in 1920 there are seats and rose garden situated on the right side and rose garden and pond for water plants located on the left side of the entrance, but now there is a Cafe and childrens play area in place of rose garden and pond for water plants. moreover, in 1920 we see a fountain at the center of the park and stage for musicians toward right side, but now the fountain is replaced by rose garden and seats for people to sit there and stage for musicians is replaced by Amphitheatre for concerts.
similarly, when we enter from the Eldon entrance we see seats and rose garden on the left side and glasshouse on the right side of the park but now the glasshouse is replaced by water feature and there are no seats and rose garden on the left side.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the park in both 1920 and the present day. You have successfully identified key changes, such as the replacement of the fountain and the addition of the cafe and amphitheatre. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the shift from a more formal, quiet garden layout to a more recreational, facility-oriented space. While you report the details accurately, the structure of the comparison could be more analytical to better highlight the transformation of the park's purpose over the century.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is generally coherent, with a logical progression from the introduction to the specific details of the entrances. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the report is contained within two very long, dense paragraphs. Using more frequent paragraph breaks—for example, separating the description of the entrances from the central features—would improve readability. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive (e.g., 'when we enter', 'on the left side'). Incorporating a wider variety of linking words and referencing techniques would help the ideas flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'amphitheatre', 'glasshouse', and 'situated' correctly. However, there is a lack of variety in your descriptive language. You rely heavily on basic structures such as 'there are' and 'is replaced by'. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise verbs and descriptive adjectives to characterize the changes, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'dismantled', or 'modernized'. Some minor errors in word choice occur, such as 'pond for water plants' which could be more concisely referred to as a 'lily pond' or 'aquatic feature'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('the park', 'overall', 'the park'). There are also some tense inconsistencies; for instance, 'when it was open' should be 'when it opened', and 'what remain the same' should be 'what remains the same'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage for historical descriptions will improve your accuracy.
