The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given images illustrate the layout of a public park in 1920 and today.

Overall, the Grange Park undergone a significant redevelopment with several amenities. There are the additions of children play area, an Amphitheatre and water features. Few features have been removed like the fountain, a stage for the musician, glass house and water plants.

In 1920, park had two entrance; one was on Arnold Avenue and other was the Eldon street. A fountain was present as a center feature and the stage for musicians was present at the left of the fountain. At that time, park had three rose gardens, in which two were present at the each side of Arnold Avenue entrance and one is located to the left side of Eldon Street entrance. There was a pond for water plants in the upper right corner and a glasshouse near the Eldon street entrance.

Currently, the pond for water plants and a stage for musicians have been swapped with the children play area and an Amphitheatre for concerts. A water feature has been built at the place of glasshouse and a cafe has been established to the right side of the Arnold avenue entrance. A fountain has been replaced by the rose garden with the seating blocks at each side. One rose garden at the upper left corner has been remained the same, while the seats around it have been removed. The entrance for underground car park has been built at the bottom right corner near the Eldon Street entrance.
