Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to summarise the main changes to Grange Park between 1920 and today, noting key developments such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden, the addition of an amphitheatre, a café, a children's play area, and an underground car park entrance. However, the description lacks the precision, objectivity, and academic tone expected for Task 1. There are several inaccuracies in spatial reporting and feature identification (for instance, stating that 'all features are change' when the north-west rose garden remains). Furthermore, the overview is extremely basic and poorly articulated, falling short of Band 5 expectations due to limited development and frequent descriptive lapses.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organisational structure is very weak. The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall arrangement are disrupted by a lack of cohesive control and poor paragraphing mechanics. Discourse markers like 'at the begin', 'furthermore', and 'moreover' are used awkwardly and inaccurately, failing to establish clear relationships between ideas. Referencing is also problematic, with vague pronouns ('these', 'all subjects') making it difficult for the reader to follow which park elements are being discussed. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are erratic, severely impeding the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

Vocabulary is limited, repetitive, and heavily impacted by basic spelling errors and inappropriate word choices. Examples such as 'diffrence', 'additinally', 'avialable', 'surounded', and 'sounthe' demonstrate a lack of control over standard orthography. The student relies on simplistic, conversational vocabulary ('good', 'big', 'items', 'subjects') rather than precise terms suitable for a map comparison (e.g., 'relocated', 'demolished', 'expanded'). While some domain-specific terms are attempted ('amphitheatre', 'glasshouse'), lexical inaccuracies restrict the response to a Band 4 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak, with a high frequency of errors that frequently distort meaning and hinder readability. The response contains numerous fragment sentences, run-on sentences, and basic tense confusion (mixing present and past tenses inappropriately). Examples include 'the entrance are not change' (subject-verb agreement and voice error), 'in middle there is a two main items' (plurality and article errors), and a general lack of complex sentence structures executed accurately. Punctuation is largely neglected, resulting in disjointed and ungrammatical clauses throughout.
