Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student attempts to describe the main features of Grange Park comparing 1920 and today, successfully mentioning key changes such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden, the addition of a café, children's play area, and an amphitheatre. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and vague descriptions regarding locations. For instance, the glasshouse is described as being in the 'south west side' when it was in the south-east, and the overall summary is very brief and simplistic. The overview is underdeveloped, stating only that 'many changes occure in park', which misses a more cohesive summary of the spatial transformation. Consequently, the response fulfills the basic requirements of the task but lacks precision and fuller development, aligning with a Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different areas of the map. However, the progression of ideas is often confusing and difficult to follow due to poor cohesive devices and mechanical linking (e.g., 'To start with', 'Moving toward, in todays, in park entrance occure no changes'). Referencing is frequently unclear, with pronouns and spatial markers like 'in left side of the entrance' used incorrectly or ambiguously. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails to create a smooth, logical flow, resulting in a score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'park', 'entrance', 'rose garden', and 'seats'. There are numerous word formation and spelling errors, such as 'ilustration' (illustration), 'pen' (when), 'occure' (occurred), 'Addiontally' (Additionally), and 'redesing' (redesigned). The student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'amphitheatre' and 'glasshouse' (taken from the prompt), but overall lexical control is limited, meaning the range is minimally adequate for the task. This places the response firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The student struggles to form complete, grammatically correct sentences, frequently omitting essential verbs, subjects, or prepositions (e.g., 'Just after the entrance had a fountain', 'in left side of the entrance had similar things'). There is a heavy reliance on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex structures are invariably faulty. Punctuation and tense usage are also problematic, with inappropriate switches between past and present descriptions without clear rationale. Frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, justifying a Band 5.0.
