Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by comparing Grange Park in 1920 and today. However, there are several inaccuracies and omissions in reporting the visual data. For instance, the student refers to the year 2026 instead of 'today', and misinterprets some geographical features (e.g., claiming the entrance is in the northeast, whereas the maps clearly show northern and southern entrances). Furthermore, the overview provided in the second paragraph is weak, mentioning minor details rather than overarching trends. The response covers the main areas like the rose gardens and the fountain/amphitheatre conversion, but lacks precise detail and contains factual confusions. This performance aligns best with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows some attempt at organization through paragraphing, separating the introduction, 1920 features, and present-day features. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor cohesive devices and mechanical linking words like 'To begin with', 'Moving next to', and 'Probing further'. Paragraphing is also disrupted by fragmented sentences (e.g., isolating single clauses). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and punctuation errors (such as spaces before commas) detract from the overall flow. Overall coherence is patchy, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'map', 'park', 'rose garden', 'seats', and 'entrance' repeatedly. There are frequent word choice and spelling errors, such as 'give' instead of 'given', 'facilated' instead of 'facilitated', 'enterance' and 'entarnce' instead of 'entrance', 'interstingly' instead of 'interestingly', 'noticablly' instead of 'noticeably', 'childerns' instead of 'children's', and 'sme' instead of 'same'. These errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, placing this criterion at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in article usage, prepositional phrases (e.g., 'in the let' instead of 'to the left'), and subject-verb agreement or tense consistency. For example, 'the grange park undergoes a number of changes to become more facilated' mixes past and present incorrectly. Punctuation is also problematic throughout the text, with stray spaces and missing capitals. Because errors are frequent and occasionally impede understanding, this corresponds to Band 5.0.
