Student answer (Band 5.0)
We have two diagrammatic plan of a public park where one plan illustrates how the part used to look back in 1920 and how it looks like today. In a Broader view, the park seems to look more organized and well planned as compared to how it used to look like in 1920. In 1920 the park had a fountain right in the middle of it and a bit left to the fountain there was a stage for musicians which gives and if we talk about entrances, the park had 2 entrances at the north and south of the fountains. Right next to north entrance the park had seats and a rose garden which means visitors didn't have to walk for so long to look for a seating area and they enjoy the best view of rose garden while having some rest. and we had seats and glasshouse next to the south entrance. The park had 5 different areas for seats 2 at both entrances and 3 around the park. the we had 3 rose garden in the 1 at the north-west, 1 at the south-west and 1 at the north-east, and at the north-east corner we had a pond for water plants, but if we compare 1920's park with today's park it is more well organized, properly structured and less empty area as compared to park of 1920, we still have 2 entrances at the same place as they were in 1920, and in the place of fountain we now have a rose garden in the center and 4 seating areas around the rose garden, the in replacement of stage for musician we now have Amphitheatre for concert which looks much better then a stage, and we also have another rose garden right next to Amphitheatre and we have a seperate children's play area, this is the best initiative they have taken beacause it provides safety to childrens and bring all things of their interest to one place and cafe next to play area, if they feel hungry they can directly access to cafe and in todays park we have an underground car park and a water feature which looks more aesthetic as compared to a water fountain

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the public park in both 1920 and today, noting key changes such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden, the addition of an amphitheatre, a children's play area, and an underground car park. However, the student includes personal commentary and subjective evaluations ('which looks much better then a stage', 'this is the best initiative they have taken'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report where objectivity is required. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat repetitive and informal in tone, preventing it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text suffers significantly from a lack of proper paragraphing, as it is written as one continuous, massive block of text. This makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While the writer uses some basic cohesive devices and conjunctions (e.g., 'and', 'but', 'which'), sentences often run on excessively without appropriate punctuation or full stops, leading to a sprawling, conversational structure. Paragraph division is essential in Academic Task 1 to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, and the absence of this severely impacts the score for this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate to describe the physical locations and features of the park, including terms like 'fountain', 'rose garden', 'amphitheatre', and 'underground car park'. However, the lexical range is limited, and there are several word choice and spelling errors, such as 'diagrammatic plan' instead of plans, 'part' instead of park, and 'seperate' instead of separate. The student also relies heavily on informal and repetitive phrasing ('looks like', 'right next to', 'which looks more aesthetic'), failing to demonstrate the precise vocabulary expected in an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but it is heavily marred by run-on sentences and a lack of standard punctuation. For example, sentences like 'Right next to north entrance the park had seats and a rose garden which means visitors didn't have to walk for so long to look for a seating area and they enjoy the best view of rose garden while having some rest.' chain multiple clauses together without proper terminal punctuation. There are also frequent grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('at north-west', 'to cafe') and tense inconsistencies. The poor punctuation and run-on structure frequently strain the reader.
