Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to describe the main features of Grange Park in 1920 and today, covering several elements such as the rose gardens, pond, fountain, café, and amphitheatre. However, the response suffers from significant weaknesses in selection, comparison, and clarity. While an overview is attempted, it is awkwardly phrased and lacks precision in highlighting the overall spatial transformation. Furthermore, many details are confused or inaccurately reported, such as the claim that 'seats are present in the middle of the grange park' where a rose garden is actually located. Important changes, such as the addition of the underground car park entrance and the replacement of the glasshouse with a water feature, are omitted or poorly articulated. Because the response lacks a fully developed overview and contains numerous inaccurate references to the map's layout, it falls short of higher band criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text attempts a four-paragraph structure, separating the introduction, an overview, and details for both time periods. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sentence construction and lack of cohesive control. Transitional phrases are either missing or misused (e.g., 'In this Grange Park offered...', 'After a long time, in this grange park have some changes...'). Referencing is often unclear, leaving the reader confused about which features are being compared or located. Paragraphing is present visually, but internal cohesion is weak, with ideas strung together using repetitive conjunctions rather than sophisticated discourse markers. This results in a disjointed reading experience that aligns with Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is highly repetitive and basic, heavily relying on the words provided in the prompt and map labels (e.g., 'rose garden', 'seats', 'pond for water plants', 'stage for musicians'). There are very few attempts at less common lexical items, and those attempted are often used incorrectly or combined with awkward collocations (e.g., 'could indicated the Arnold Avenue entrance', 'pond for water plants were presented'). Word forms and parts of speech are frequently confused, such as using 'presented' instead of 'situated' or 'located'. Spelling is generally acceptable for common words, but the overall lexical range and precision are restricted, supporting a Band 5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences attempt simple or faulty complex forms, and there is a total lack of error-free complex sentences. Frequent grammatical errors severely impede clarity, including missing subjects, incorrect verb tenses, and severe subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'three a rose gardens were in it', 'pond for water plants were presented', 'in this grange park have some changes'). Prepositions and articles are also misused throughout the text. Due to the high frequency of basic structural errors and awkward phrasing that frequently cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 4.5 is indicated, rounded to 5.0 for overall comprehensibility.
