IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The map illustrates a current view of the Grange park and when it was first opened in 1920.

Overall, the park has been developed and many features have been added such as a amphi-theatre, cafe, water and play area. Whereas many other features have been replaced such as, a fountain, glasshouse and stage for musicians.

In 1920, a fountain was situated in the centre of the park which has been replaced by a rose garden in today's plan. Currently, the glass garden is surrounded by seating area, which previously was located only in the corners of the park. The rose garden that was located on the left side of the north entrance of the park in 1920 remained the same, while that of the rose garden present on the right side has been replaced by cafeteria.

Stage for musicians situated on the left side of the fountain in 1920 has been refurbished into amphitheatre for concerts. Next to the cafe is children's play area and just south to it is a water feature in today's park. Another entrance has been added just beside to water feature for the underground car parking.
