Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student covers the main changes between the 1920 park and the park today, noting major additions and alterations such as the amphitheatre, the central rose garden, and the underground car park. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in reporting specific locations (e.g., stating that seats have been removed from the right side of the garden when they are actually rearranged around the central rose garden). The overview is present in the final sentence and scattered throughout, but the development of comparisons could be more cohesive and structured. Overall, it addresses the prompt adequately, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text is divided into paragraphs, starting with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific changes. However, referencing is sometimes unclear (e.g., repeating 'in park' awkwardly without articles), and cohesive devices are used rather mechanically, such as repetitive use of 'Although'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow between sentences feels slightly disjointed in places, such as moving abruptly between different areas of the map. This corresponds to Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student attempts some less common vocabulary relevant to maps and changes, such as 'demolished', 'transformed', and 'amphitheatre'. However, there are frequent word-formation and collocation errors, such as 'fountain has demolished' (passive needed), 'water feature has introduced', and spelling errors like 'avence' and 'detroyed'. Vocabulary is adequate for the task, but these inaccuracies place it at a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, frequently using concessive clauses with 'Although'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak due to frequent missing articles (e.g., 'structure of park', 'cafe has started on place'), active/passive voice confusion (e.g., 'fountain has demolished'), and verb form errors ('seats haves detroyed'). The high frequency of grammatical slips impedes smooth reading and caps the score at Band 5.0.
