The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The maps compare the layout of the Grange Park when it opened in 1920 with its present-day layout.

Overall, the park has undergone considerable changes since 1920. The original glasshouse and a pond for water plants have been removed. The amphitheatre for concerts and central rose garden have replaced the stage for musicians and fountain, respectively, while a cafe, water feature, children's play area and an underground parking have been introduced.

The 1920, the layout of the park was quite simple. The fountain occupied the centre of the park, with a stage for musicians on its western side. There were two entrances on both north and south side of the park, one on the Arnold Avenue and another one on the Eldon Street. There were three rose gardens, two situated to the west of the park, while one located in the southwest corner. There were five seating areas scattered evenly throughout the park. There were a pond of water and glasshouse in the northeast and the southeast corner, respectively.

At present-day, the layout of the map has been modified significantly. The fountain and stage for musicians have been replaced by a central rose garden which is surrounded by seats and an amphitheatre for concerts, respectively. A cafe and a children's play area have been added in the northeast corner. Entrances and one rose garden has retained the original position. A water feature has been introduced in the southwest corner. Finally, an underground car park has been added on the eastern side of the map.
