IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The maps illustrate changes to Grange park Arnold Avenue when it was first opened in 1920 from today.

Overall, the park significantly over time, with the addition of Amphitheatre for concerts, cafe, children's play area, water feature, and even an underground parking was built for people who comes from far. In contrast, fountain, pond and stage has been removed.

On left side of the park, the biggest change is that the stage for musicians has been reconstructed into amphitheatre for concerts. The rose garden on the north west is untouched, however the rose garden on the south west has been removed. Similarly, seats from all sides of the park is removed and sat in the middle of the park, around rose garden which is built where the fountain used to be.

On the right side of the park, the major changes are the children's play area which is build after removal of pond, and rose garden has been converted into a cafe. Consequently, the main attraction of the park has been build in the place of glasshouse, water feature.

Entrance of the park is the same as 1920, and underground car parking is build, whose entrance is on the far southeast of the park.
