Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to describe the main changes between the 1920 park and the current layout. An overall trend is provided at the beginning, noting that some features like entrances and rose gardens remain while positions have changed. Key features are reported, such as the addition of the amphitheatre, cafe, and underground car park entrance, alongside the removal of the fountain and glasshouse. However, the response lacks precision in reporting locations and is somewhat repetitive in its referencing of spatial changes, leaning towards a Band 5 or 6 descriptor. Because it covers all main parts of the visual data with relevant, though slightly underdeveloped details, it fits Band 5.5 to 6.0. We award a Band 5.0 as the descriptions contain imprecise phrasing like 'in left mid they made musicians stage' and minor missed specifics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, body paragraphs for 1920 and today, and a brief concluding sentence. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sequencing words ('Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Lastly') and mechanical cohesive devices. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'where he performed' referencing a stage, and sentences are run-on or awkwardly conjoined (e.g., 'In top left they made rose garden same like previous one and amphitheatre for concerts'). Paragraphing is attempted but lacks sophisticated logical transitions. Overall, the organization is basic, aligning with a Band 5.0 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple terms like 'made', 'park', and 'rose garden'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'illustrates about', 'galss house', 'children play area' (missing apostrophe), and 'way of underground parking'. The student attempts less common vocabulary ('amphitheatre', 'advancements'), but inaccuracies and spelling mistakes ('galss') restrict the range. This level of lexical control matches the Band 5 descriptors, where the vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple clauses and repetitive prepositional phrases indicating location. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in top left', 'in middle of park'), incorrect prepositions ('illustrates about'), tense inconsistencies ('when it is first opened'), and fragment sentences. Complex sentences are attempted but are generally faulty or awkwardly structured. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate weak control over basic grammar, fitting the Band 5 profile.
