The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The maps illustrate the layout of a public park when it opened first in 1920 and how certain redevelopment occur currently.

Overall, the park has undergone considerable modernization. While the northern and southern entrances, the seating areas and the rose gardens have been preserved, several new facilities have been added, including a water feature, a children's play area, an amphitheatre, an underground car park, and a café.

In 1920, a park featured a fountain in the centre, while the two entrances located at the northern side near Arnold avenue and the southern side near Eldon street. Seats were arranged around the park , and there were three rose garden in the north-western, north-eastern and south-eastern corners. A large pound wa located near the eastern side of the park, while a stage for musicians occupied the western side.

At present, the park offers a wide range of recreational facilities while retaining several original features. The central fountain has been replaced by a large rose garden surrounded by seats. The stage has been transformed into a large amphitheatre for concerts. In addition, a children's play area and a café have been constructed in the north-eastern corner, while the large pond in the south-eastern corner has been redesigned as a water feature. Furthermore, an underground car park has been built beneath the park to improve accessibility for visitors.
