The park opened in 1920 had glasshouse in left and in right had a area for sitting. Just next to sitting area there was a garden of Roses then again sitting area. At second enterance there was a sitting area in left and in right, a Rose garden. Besides Rose garden there was a pond for water plants and next to it a stting area. In middle there was a fountain. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the two maps of Grange Park in 1920 and today, but it struggles significantly with spatial orientation and feature selection. In the first paragraph, the student misdescribes the layout of the 1920 park, stating that the glasshouse was 'in left' and the seating was 'in right', which is inaccurate (the glasshouse was along the southern edge and seats were scattered). The description of the modern map mentions a 'broder Rose garden in center' and an 'Amphitheatre for concerts', which captures some correct details, but overall the summary is disjointed, lacks a clear overview, and misses several key comparisons between the two time periods. This performance aligns with Band 4.5 to 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is divided into two paragraphs corresponding to the two time periods, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is difficult to follow due to poor cohesive referencing and abrupt transitions such as 'At second enterance' and 'In next planning'. Pronoun use and spatial markers (like 'in left' and 'in right') are repetitive and imprecise, making it hard for the reader to visualize the map. Paragraphing is present, but overall logical flow is disrupted by mechanical and inadequate cohesion. This corresponds to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'sitting area', 'Rose garden', and 'enterance' (spelled incorrectly multiple times). There are several spelling errors throughout the text, including 'glasshouse' (used correctly as a noun, but missing articles), 'stting', 'enterance', 'broder', 'grerat', and 'cafe' without an accent. Attempts at less common vocabulary are very limited, and the range is barely adequate to describe spatial features. This warrants a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex structures, such as 'The park opened in 1920 had glasshouse in left...' which contains missing articles and prepositions. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response, including missing prepositions ('in [the] left'), missing articles ('a area', 'glasshouse'), and awkward phrasing ('the design is entirely change'). These errors occasionally cause strain and difficulty for the reader. This performance fits Band 5.0 descriptors.
