The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The two maps show the changes to Grange Park from its old layout to today.

Overall, the park has been modernized with new facilities and a rearranged layout, although its location between Eldon Street and Arnold Avenue remains.

Previously, the park had a stage for musicians in the northwest and a fountain in the north. A rose garden was in the southwest, and a glasshouse was in the southeast near the only entrance on Eldon Street. There were seats on the west, east and near the entrance.

Today, the central feature is the rose garden, surrounded by seats on four sides. The stage has been enlarged into an amphitheatre for concerts on the west side. The fountain and glasshouse have been removed. A cafe and a children’s play area have been built in the northeast corner, and a water feature is now in the southeast. The park now has two entrances, on Eldon Street and Arnold Avenue, and an underground car park entrance has been added on the southeast corner
