Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student attempts to address the task by comparing Grange Park in 1920 with its layout today, mentioning several key changes such as the replacement of the stage with an amphitheatre, the removal of the pond, and the addition of an underground car park. However, the response lacks a clear, cohesive overall overview that summarises the main trends of modernisation and layout restructuring. Furthermore, some descriptions are overly list-like and repetitive, failing to fully synthesize the visual data into a well-developed report. According to Band 5 and 6 descriptors, the task is addressed, but ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into several short paragraphs, but the paragraphing and logical progression are weak. The introduction is awkwardly phrased and split improperly, and the body paragraphs consist of disjointed sentences rather than a cohesive flow of comparative information. Cohesive devices are minimal or repetitive (e.g., 'In the place of', 'One more great change'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'same place'. Overall arrangement shows some basic organization, aligning best with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive ('park changes', 'changes are made', 'great change', 'adorable'). While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'amphitheatre', 'eliminated', and 'underground car park', there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and inappropriate collocations, such as 'adorable water feature' and 'very important for car parking'. Spelling and word choice errors are present but do not completely impede communication, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic passive forms ('are made', 'is replaced', 'is eliminated'). There are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation/capitalization issues throughout the text, such as missing articles ('an underground car park', 'pond for water plants'), incorrect capitalization ('Stage', 'Glass house'), and fragment sentences ('Its looking more adorable...'). Complex sentence attempts are often faulty. This performance corresponds to Band 5.
