The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The two maps illustrate the change occur in a public places in Grange park at Arnold Avenue in 1920 and for at present situation.

Overall, the park has undergone significant changes. The original park had several rose garden, a fountain, a stage for musicians and a glasshouse and a pond for water plants. Today, these facilities have mostly been replaced by Amphitheatre for concerts, a cafe, a children's play area and a water feature.

In 1920, there were two entrance to the park, one from Arnold Avenue and second from Eldon street. A stage for the musicians was placed in the western part of the park, while a fountain stood in the center of the park. There were four rose gardens around the park as well as seating area. In the eastern section, there was a pond for water plants and a glasshouse.

Today, a stage has been replaced by an Amphitheatre for concerts in the western area. The central fountain and most of the rose gardens have also disappeared, although one rose garden remains in the north-western part. A café has been added in the northern section, and a children’s play area is located in the north-east. In addition, the former pond has been replaced by a water feature in the south-east. Several seats have been placed around the remaining rose garden, and there are now entrances on both Arnold Avenue and Eldon Street.
