Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of Grange Park in 1920 and today, noting key changes such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden, the addition of a café, and the conversion of the stage into an amphitheatre. However, there are notable inaccuracies and omissions in reporting the visual data; for instance, the student states that the seating areas were removed, whereas the maps clearly show seats surrounding the central rose garden and other parts of the park. Additionally, the overview is extremely brief and lifts phrasing directly from the prompt. Because some information is inaccurate and certain spatial relationships are misread, the task achievement is limited to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into a brief introductory sentence, an overview paragraph, and a body paragraph. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular and ideas lack a clear, logical progression. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused, leading to a choppy and repetitive flow. For example, sentences are frequently strung together with coordinating conjunctions like 'and' rather than appropriate logical connectors. Pronoun referencing is also unclear in places, such as 'which is displaced by wtaer featureand there is addition of underground car park'. The overall organization meets the criteria for Band 5.0, as there is some structure, but overall progression is hindered by faulty cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'park', 'rose garden', 'cafe', and 'fountain'. There are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'tranformed', 'traditinal', 'illustarte', 'amphitheature', 'wtaer', and 'featureand'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'recreational area' and 'appearance', but control is weak and collocation errors occur. The range is minimally adequate for the task, but errors in word choice and spelling impede communication at times, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures often result in heavy grammatical errors, missing articles, and incorrect tense usage, such as 'The given picture giving information and we selcting' and 'In 1920, the park featured three rose garden one in each top corner'. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces frequently misplaced before commas and periods. Errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, which aligns closely with the Band 5.0 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
