Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present an overview and select main features, but it contains several inaccuracies and omissions regarding the map details. For instance, the student states that 'only one of the rose garden remains on the north-east sight', whereas the visual data shows it is actually in the north-west, and the north-east corner now contains a children's play area. Additionally, the overview lists some specific details rather than providing a clear, high-level summary of the major spatial transformations. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to ensure all reported features are factually accurate against the visual data and provide a more comprehensive, well-developed overview of the overall changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding overview structure, but it lacks clear overall progression. The sequencing of information feels slightly disjointed, particularly in the body paragraphs where spatial details jump around without a smooth geographical flow. Furthermore, cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or inaccurate, such as starting sentences abruptly with 'Such as' or mechanical transitions like 'Today, several changes have been occured.' Paragraphing is attempted, but ideas within the paragraphs are not always logically grouped. To improve, the writer should employ clearer referencing words, ensure standard paragraph breaks, and build a more logical progression from one area of the park to another.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'amphitheatre', 'converted', and 'underground car park', but struggles with accurate word choice, spelling, and collocations. Examples of lexical errors include 'stage of musicians' (instead of stage for musicians), 'sitting place' (instead of seating), 'childern' (spelling error), and 'pond water is removed' (instead of the pond for water plants). There are also recurring prepositional and collocation slips like 'on the arnold avenue sight' (site). To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and improve spelling and word choice accuracy so that terms are used naturally and precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic active or passive constructions. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as fragment sentences ('Such as fountain which is now turned...') and severe subject-verb agreement errors ('a new childern's play area have been added'). There are also frequent errors in tense usage, passive voice formation ('have been occured', 'have been replace', 'is remove', 'remaisn'), and article usage. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from demonstrating good control over grammar and punctuation.
