Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by identifying several key changes between 1920 and today, such as the conversion of the fountain into a rose garden, the stage into an amphitheatre, and the pond into a play area. However, the overview is incomplete and poorly integrated, failing to capture the full scope of the transformation. Some details are also under-developed or missing, such as the addition of the underground car park entrance. The selection of features is limited, and the overall progression lacks the clarity expected at higher bands, placing this aspect of the writing firmly within the lower-mid category.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the response, featuring a tentative overview and attempts at paragraphing, such as 'Overall, it is evident...' and 'Heading to details...'. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and poor sentence linking. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically or inadequately, and referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in abrupt jumps between locations without guiding the reader smoothly across the map. Paragraphing is attempted but lacks the structure needed to ensure a seamless flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic descriptions of the park, using words like 'entrance', 'rose garden', 'cafe', and 'play area'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'pound for water plants' instead of 'pond', and 'covert' instead of 'converted'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and spelling or morphological inaccuracies occur regularly, though they generally do not completely impede communication. To improve, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range and focus on precise collocations related to spatial changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic relative clauses. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, characterised by missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and structural confusion, such as in 'there are two entrances of park which located in street one in north side'. Frequent errors in articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation occur throughout the text and can cause some difficulty for the reader, keeping the control of grammar at a basic level.
