Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by identifying several key features from both maps, such as the fountain, rose gardens, and stage in the 1920 park, and the café, amphitheatre, and play area in the modern layout. However, the development of these ideas is limited and mechanical. The overview is missing, and the description tends to focus on isolated details rather than selecting and reporting the main overall trends or comprehensive comparisons. To achieve a higher band, the response would need to include a clear overview of the main changes and develop the comparisons between the two time periods more fully and systematically throughout the text.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a lack of overall progression and logical organisation. The text is written as a single, dense block of writing without standard paragraphing to separate the description of the 1920 park from the contemporary plan. Cohesive devices are either missing or inadequate, relying on basic, repetitive conjunctions and transition words like 'and', 'but', and 'other side'. Reference words are frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between features. To improve in this criterion, the writer must organise the essay into clear paragraphs—such as an introduction/overview, a body paragraph for 1920, and a body paragraph for today—and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, featuring repetitive phrasing and numerous word choice errors, such as describing the park as 'very exthatic' or features that 'look like a wow' and 'look energatic'. There are also frequent spelling and word form errors throughout the response, including 'differencessuch', 'amphithearter', and 'ater feature'. While the writer attempts to use some less common descriptive words, the inaccuracies frequently strain communication and impede readability. A higher band would require a wider and more precise range of vocabulary appropriate for an Academic task, avoiding informal or conversational expressions and demonstrating correct spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed sentence structures. There are frequent, persistent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'the public park who opened in 1920 are very unique', 'they have five seats', and 'there have a cafe'. Complex structures are attempted, but they are consistently faulty, often lacking necessary relative pronouns or correct clausal arrangements. Punctuation is also poorly managed, with missing capital letters and run-on sentences. To reach a higher level, the writer must demonstrate control over basic grammatical structures, improve agreement and verb usage, and successfully incorporate accurate complex sentences.
